Approximate weight—
Ingredient density makes a big difference.
How it works
Volume-to-weight conversion depends on ingredient density and how tightly an ingredient is packed. This calculator uses practical approximate grams-per-cup values, so a kitchen scale remains best for precision baking.
Cooking conversions are practical estimates. Ingredient brands, packing methods, cookware and appliances can affect real-world results.
CALCULATOR GUIDE
Why cups do not have one gram value
Cups measure volume while grams measure mass, so the conversion depends on the ingredient's density. Flour, sugar and butter therefore have different gram values for the same cup volume.
Choose the correct ingredient before converting. For precision baking, weighing ingredients directly is preferable.
